Weekly Garden Tip
Quite a large portion of pests are soil-dwelling during at least one phase of their life. To reduce pests in your garden, scuff the top few inches of soil once or twice a week.
This unearths eggs, larvae, and pupae in the soil and exposes them to the harsh environment above ground where they can’t survive.

Dear Arti:
Question: What does magnesium deficiency look like in the plant? – Gina C., Concord, NH
Answer: Hi Gina,
As a general rule, it will be a yellowing on the tips then turning to brown as though burnt. But it can present in different plants in slightly different ways, so if you’re concerned you might have a magnesium deficiency, research the specific variety of plant you have and what a magnesium deficiency looks like in that particular crop.
This week in the GYOV garden, CEO and Lifestyle Gardener Denise Beins is enjoying some unique native plants: a young paw paw tree, a salmonberry, and a serviceberry.
Each one brings its own charm—fruit to look forward to and beauty that supports local pollinators and wildlife.
