🪴 Container Gardening Micro Course! 🪴
What is the #1 best gardening system?
The best garden system is the one that works for you. Right here. Right now.
You might be thinking, “But I don’t have any space right here!” Or “I’m too busy right now.”
It’s easy to think of all the things you lack. But here’s the deal. You can start gardening or expand your existing garden TODAY.
That’s why we’re crazy for container gardens! 🤪
In the Container Gardening Micro Course, you’ll find videos, downloadable eGuides, worksheets, and resources to help you see garden opportunities all around you.
5 Keys to Container Growing Success:
🔑 Containers: Give your plants a home they’ll love!
Whether you purchase them or repurpose common objects to make your own, containers come in so many shapes, sizes, colors, and materials! And all of these factors impact your plants growing inside them. Learn how to select containers that suit your favorite plants, your style, and your budget.
🔑 Growing Medium: Get the dirt on potting mix.
Decipher packaging and labels, so you can pick a potting mix that gives your plants optimum nutrition and drainage. You’ll also get a printable worksheet to take when you go shopping!
.
🔑 Light: Let it shine, get it right.
Adequate light is crucial for all container gardens! If you’re growing indoors or partially indoors, choosing the right grow lamps can be tricky. LED? Fluorescent? Broad spectrum? Your Container Garden Micro Course will shed some light on the subject.
🔑 Varieties: Compact plants, big harvests!
Indoors or outdoors, compact varieties of your favorite crops give you big yields without taking up big space. In the course, we share our go-to varieties for container growing. You’ll also learn about the best crops to grow indoors (and a few to avoid).
🔑 Fertilization: Add nutrients naturally.
Because plants in containers aren’t connected to the earth, you want to make sure you’re feeding them all the nutrition they need. But that doesn’t mean you’re stuck using chemical fertilizers! We’ll show you what to look for, so your plants can thrive naturally.
[Video] Escape overwhelm in your vegetable garden
Is your harvest abundance a gift or is it feeling overwhelming?
This video will help you shift from overwhelm to enjoying your garden again!
Weekly Garden Tip:
Bean leaf beetle larvae feed on bean roots and need soil moisture, so keep the soil as dry as you can to inhibit growth. Scuff the soil early in spring once or twice a week to unearth pupating beetles because as soon as temperatures reach about 50°F (10°C), they come out to feast!

Dear Arti:
Question: HELP! What can I do to get rid of invasive Asian jumping worms? They came in a bag of mulch I bought at Home Depot. I contacted the store 3 times, contacted corporate headquarters and Wisconsin University (the University is studying them). I got no responses! I got compost at Home Depot and it was harboring this invasive species! – Lynda
Answer: Hi Lynda,
I hear you! I’m so sorry this happened!
First, unfortunately, the hardware stores have zero control over this. And companies that sell these products don’t either. That’s because we haven’t yet figured out how to solve the problem of this invasive species. But there are scientists working on the problem.
Now let’s go over some info about this invasive creature.
For anyone who doesn’t know, there are three species of these worms that are currently affecting the biology in many countries: Amynthas agrestis, Amynthas tokioensis, and Metaphire hilgendorfi. These ‘jumping worms’ are earthworms. And yes, they produce worm castings. The problem is that they reproduce and consume organic matter at an alarming rate.
Many ecosystems can’t keep up. Our plants simply do not produce enough organic matter. The result is complete consumption of the critical layer of organic matter. This puts several things at risk: vital nutrients that are critical for plant health, as well as food, protection and habitat for wildlife.
Currently, there are no known effective remedies to eliminate the invasive worms that won’t seriously compromise the rest of the ecosystem. Your best defense at the moment is to hand pick any you see.
Then, apply the Grow Your Own Vegetable’s four step Pest Management Method.
Luckily, ecologist and researcher at the University of Wisconsin Arboretum Brad Herrick has a helpful aid. To irritate the worms and force them to the surface for easier removal, he recommends drenching the area with a mustard solution of one-third cup of dry mustard in one gallon of water and drenching the area.
I know that’s probably not the news you were hoping for Lynda, but as of this moment, the jumping worm has one up on us.
