As a general rule, there is no need to soak seeds before planting microgreens. There are exceptions to this, but often, soaking seeds can overly saturate the seeds and cause them to rot or invite mold.
[FREE] The Need to Grow Film
The Need to Grow is a film about environmental solutions that gives the world hope.
Industrial agriculture has become one of the most destructive forces on the planetโeroding the soil of vital nutrients and contaminating our food and bodies with pesticides.
Fortunately, there are a few brave innovators fighting for change. The Need to Grow highlights their story, and thanks to our friends at Food Network Revolution, the Grow Your Own Vegetables Community is invited to the limited free screening of this documentary happening now.
The focus of this film is on soil, food, and the future of our species told through the lens of three extraordinary and very likable characters and their journeys for change because they believe that change happens when people know the truth!

Dear Arti:
Question: How to deal with climate change. Growing and caring for plants in excessive heat. – Alice
Answer: Hi Alice,
You’re not alone! A lot of people are struggling to beat the heat. A great way to protect your plants from the heat is to provide shade cloth during the hot afternoon sun. Just be sure that your plants still get 6-8 hours of sunlight.
Another good way to help keep your plants cool is to build healthy soil and mulch, either with wood mulch or a living ground cover. Because even if the leaves get hot, if you keep the root zone cooler the plants have a much better chance of surviving.
The difference between soils that are covered and soils left bare can be as much as 40 degrees (in F)! That’s a huge difference!
๐ก In the GYOV Garden
GYOVย CEO and Lifestyle Gardener Denise Beins has had a lovely week in the garden (and in the kitchen)! In the photo on the left, you will see that her rhubarb was ready for harvest! She was able to craft homemade rhubarb cobbler, rhubarb sauce, and some rhubarb scones. Yum! She is also busy freezing to enjoy her rhubarb until the next growing season. The photo on the right shows that her grapes are beginning to make an appearance! She is really excited for this, as this is their first year for fruiting. Stay tuned to see how the harvest turns out.
