Dear Arti:
Question: When should we prune plums and pear trees in Ireland ? – David
Answer: Hi David,
I’m not a fruit tree expert, but for your area, pear trees should be pruned during the dormant season from November to March. Plums are pruned in early spring or mid-summer. The reason plums are pruned during this time is to avoid infection by silver leaf disease. Silver leaf disease is caused by a fungus that gets in through wounds during cool weather and eventually kills the tree by blocking water carrying vessels.

She has lovely flowers blooming, and her yarrow plant is ready for harvest. Did you know that yarrow has been used as an herbal remedy for a variety of ailments for hundreds of years? Denise is even growing mint this year with plans to take advantage of its antioxidant properties.
