Free Film: The Need to Grow
We are at a vital crossroads in the world. Industrial agriculture has become one of the most destructive forces on the planet—eroding the soil of vital nutrients and contaminating our food and bodies with pesticides.
This is why Grow Your Own Vegetables and our friends at Food Revolution Network find the message about a few brave innovators fighting for change an important one to share.
The Need to Grow is a film about environmental solutions that gives the world hope. It highlights the stories of these innovators with a focus on soil, food, and the future of our species.
Thanks to our friends at Food Revolution Network, the Grow Your Own Vegetables Community is invited to the limited free screening of this documentary happening now.
Please take the time to view this important film because change happens when people know the truth!

Dear Arti:
Question: I apparently have raccoons eating my corn. How can I stop them from getting to the pumpkins? – Kirsten
Answer: Hi, Kirsten!
Raccoons are not only super destructive; they’re also really smart! Some people are able to deter them with motion sensor sprinklers. However, if you choose this option, be sure the water isn’t spraying on the leaves of your garden plants.
Raccoons are known to love corn, so they may not be interested in the pumpkins. It depends on what else is available to them. If they are offered something more enticing, they might choose that and leave your pumpkins alone. While you can try deterring the raccoons, the only sure way to keep raccoons and other small animals out is to enclose the garden entirely—ceiling included! This can be a pretty hefty investment, so it’s usually only an option for long-term growers only.
I hope that helps! Good luck!
🏡 In the GYOV Garden
This will be GYOV CEO and Lifestyle Gardener Denise Beins has been doing some spring cleaning!
Weeds settled into some of her garden beds over the winter, but it’s time to make way for plants. Do you see the happy worm that woke from his winter’s nap as the weeds were being cleared out?
According to Denise’s friend, “There is no such thing as weeds. They are just plants growing in the wrong place.” However, we don’t know that poison hemlock or thistles are meant to grow anywhere! 🤨
